Creating solutions together.

Junge Fahrzeugbau stands for innovation and tradition. For 35 years.

The commercial vehicle sector is undergoing constant change. The availability of new drive systems has effects on procurement, and the growth in online commerce is creating new, currently little-used sales channels. Furthermore the needs of both manufacturers and customers are increasing.

All these developments require constant innovation and timely action. These are challenges that the family-owned company Junge is happy to accept. Together with Mercedes-Benz, the company is working on new recipes for success in the premium segment.

From the Northern Lights to a Europe-wide specialist.

Founded in 1983, Junge Fahrzeugbau GmbH literally has the term "automobile" in its DNA. As has proprietor and general manager Tjark Junge. Growing up with the automotive engineering company of his father Bernd Junge, Tjark already came into contact with cars and vans in early childhood – first by way of play but later as a passion. His interest in technology and entrepreneurial spirit led to the company's entry into the logistical and van segment. And very soon to a partnerschaft with Mercedes-Benz.

Today Junge Fahrzeugbau produces and markets high-quality, payload-optimised van and truck bodies, and offers its customers numerous sector-specific solutions plus a wide range of special accessories.

As a specialist in bulk cargo bodies for distribution logistics and load securing systems, Junge is now one of the leading companies in the European market.

Alongside a high degree of standardisation, Junge offers a wide variety of special equipment and service packages. These include short workshop downtimes and fast delivery of replacement parts.

With construction of the new production shop for its successful "LIGHTSTAR" concept in Schwerin, and the new product range "LOADSTAR" in the Karlsruhe and Schwerin locations, the company has reached another milestone in its transformation from an assembly operation to a manufacturer. Always at the cutting edge of technology, and based on many years of experience.

Many customers see their commercial vehicle as a modern calling card, and attach great importance to its visual quality.

The successful philosophy of Junge.

Bernd Mundhenk, general manager at Junge, who is responsible for sales and after-sales, knows the competition. The most important topics at present are payload optimisation, load securing and comfort. Added to which customers expect innovation, punctual delivery and premium quality.

All these aspects are involved in any product implementations, which must meet the highest quality expectations – another good reason for the longstanding cooperation with Mercedes-Benz and the successful approach of Junge Fahrzeugbau.

Interview with Bernd Mundhenk

Customer satisfaction as the primary aim.

In an interview with Bernd Mundhenk we find out what he finds most exciting about his sector, and how to achieve a leading position.

Mr Mundhenk, what do you love about your profession?

There is always something exciting going on, and every day brings new challenges. Tenders and customer requirements are always giving reasons to discuss new concepts and visions. The sector is continuously developing, and we are able to develop ideas together with a partner like Mercedes-Benz.

What mindset is needed to achieve and maintain such a status in this industry?

To dominate the market and share in it, you have to be in step with the times. Seeing what the changes are, and being prepared to adapt accordingly. If you obey this principle, you can continue to expand your market. What is needed is standardised body solutions, high quality and punctual delivery. And this dependability pays off in the form of customer satisfaction. This is also the primary aim of Mercedes-Benz: to ensure customer satisfaction, and not only to achieve it, but if possible even exceed it.

It is important to remain in step with the times. Seeing what the changes are, and being prepared to adapt accordingly.

Standstill is a step back. A look into the future.

The challenges in the growing sector of online commerce are bringing about changes. Flexibility is increasingly important, the pressure on capacity is doubled and the ability to deliver quickly is a must. This requires flexible logistical concepts and the ability to innovate, so as to meet new requirements. "Standstill is a step back" is the guiding principle. Needs must be recognised early, and met with products that are brought to market faster than ever before.

Probably the most exciting area for the future is electromobility – especially in combination with the problem of high traffic density in cities. This is where Junge is working on solutions together with Mercedes-Benz. With first results in the form of connectivity concepts in the distribution sector.

Interview with Tjark Junge

From an assembly operation to a premium partner.

Tjark Junge, proprietor and general manager of Junge Fahrzeugbau, gives an insight into the company's development and his personal vision.

What does reliability mean for you?

Reliability is a very important topic for me. You can only be a reliable partner for the end customer if you can rely on your own environment. One important aspect of this is communication. You can only develop together if you exchange views and information.

What about Mercedes-Benz VanSolution?

In my view, the idea for VanSolution arrived at just the right time. When the product was created in 2005, there was a strong trend towards the direct supply of complete vehicles via Mercedes-Benz. Constant further development has and will continue to make VanSolution a success story in the future.

What have been your greatest milestones to date?

The greatest changes have been brought about by development of the new product series LOADSTAR and LIGHTSTAR. Our entire corporate philosophy has changed as a result. In the past we primarily outsourced components and saw ourselves as an assembly operation. With our new product series, we have now considerably improved value creation in the company by producing formerly outsourced components ourselves. This has the advantage that we are the process owner with respect to quality, documentation and replacement parts supply, and can meet all market requirements in the long term.

What is your vision for the future?

We are closely observing the new logistical concepts and transport requirements that will arise from electromobility and autonomous driving. These will be the challenges of the future for us.
